overall, i had a great time during this practicum. i feel a lot more confident teaching brass instruments now, and i feel one step closer to being able to teach my own band class! thank you dr. sole and all of my classmates for an amazing semester, and i hope you all have a wonderful and restful winter break!

i would say i am confident enough now to be able to teach beginning brass students. i would be most comfortable teaching the fingerings and notes, and the proper grip and posture. i struggle a bit when it comes to describing proper embouchure and tone production, so i would like to work on that a bit more before having a class to myself.

i was surprised to find out too that being online actually has some of its own perks! for instance, i enjoyed being able to play and practice on mute without having to worry about other people being able to hear me. although i felt very safe and welcome, and our class felt like a judgement-free zone, i still get a bit self-conscious sometimes, so it was nice to not have to worry about being heard until i was ready to!

taking any course online during a pandemic is tough, but even more so as a music major taking classes that are largely playing-based! however, despite this roadblock, i felt that we still got a lot of work in! i was very happy with the amount that i gained from this class and feel that i can confidently teach at least a beginner student on a brass instrument now! there was a good balance between in-person and online instruction, though given the restrictions of not being able to play wind instruments during in-person classes, i felt it was more useful to have online classes for this class in particular

i feel like i could definitely translate these lesson plan ideas to other instruments i teach, and i might actually use that first lesson plan from brass practicum as a template for others in the future!

these lessons plans have been helping me quite a bit... although honestly, i feel like the most helpful part is creating it! it's a way of organizing my thoughts in a more tangible way, even though i rarely look at it during the actual lesson! and if i were to do the lesson again, it would be a good refresher tool (i actually reused most of the first lesson plan for my second lesson, even though i didn't use the actual plan in either!) XD

i think i'm a lot better of a teacher than i give myself credit for 0.0 ... confidence is key! sometimes ijust have to be a little more confident/prepared with specific wordings for techniques, such as how to describe good tone production and embouchure!

feeling like this is getting easier every time i start a new instrument... turns out brass instruments have a lot more in common than i thought! the embouchure translates almost perfectly from instrument to instrument, and trumpet and french horn have a lot of similar fingerings! those damn partials tho .... xD

thinking i like trumpet the best so far... trombone tone is too spread, and french horn partials are too close together xD
